State Under 13 Girls bound for Canberra

Western Australia’s State Under 13 Girls squad is ready for the challenge that lies ahead at the National Youth Championships next week, according to coach Elisa D’Ovidio.

WA will play five games over the three-day tournament in Group B alongside NSW Country, VIC Country and Tasmania.

“The girls have been training together for a good solid seven weeks, three nights per week,” said D’Ovidio.

“They have progressed tremendously since the beginning and have shown some promising signs in some of their scratch matches against the boys.

“I am really happy with where they are at and have great belief in the girls that they will do quite well in Canberra.”

D’Ovidio also says playing attractive football is her main priority.

“You always want to try finish top of your group, but my aim is to play good football and hopefully get one or two players identified from WA, as this group has some very talented girls who have shown they can compete at a higher level.

“I am looking forward to watching some of these girls shine and let’s hope all their hard work pays off at the end.”

The tournament kicks off on Wednesday 18 April at Hawker Stadium in Canberra.
