WESTERN SPIRIT WA WOMENS MASTERS TEAM BOUND FOR PAN PACIFICS

The Western Spirit WA Women’s Football Team are off to the Gold Coast this Friday to compete in the 9th biennial Pan Pacific Masters Games. In 2012 the Games set a record of 12,200 participants from more than 30 countries. Masters Games rate as one of the top 5 sporting events in the world after the FIFA World Cup and Olympic Games.

The Team will play up to 2 games every day from Sunday through to the finals the following Saturday. All games are being played at the Nerang Soccer Club between the beautiful Tamborine Mountain and Surfers Paradise on the Gold Coast. The ladies are playing in Division One of the 40+ womens competition. Of the 78 teams competing, there are 30 teams across 4 womens divisions. Teams have registered from all around the Oceania and Pacific region for this biennial event.

There are four players in the current team from the winning World Masters Games Team that played in Italy in July last year (Tina Glasson, Penny TannerHoath, Sylvia Jenkins, Kerry Henry) and three gold medal winners including Tina Glasson, Kerry Henry and Michelle Colebrook from the previous Pan Pacific Tournament.

Players draw from the Women’s State Leagues, Metropolitan Leagues and Regional competitions from Mandurah to Perth and the Goldfields.

The team carries a tradition of winning a medal at every tournament they have competed in over the last two decades.
