Stepping up into top flight women’s State League football for the first time in the Melville City FC’s history has been both a dream and a challenge. The dynamic teenage duo of Laura and Raffi Waltman, have been an integral part of the very young Melville brigade in its rise to Premier League football this year.

Outstanding performances saw the WA teenagers both selected in the open women’s Australian Maccabiah Football team bound for Israel in July this year. They are the only two selected from WA.

Terrible news has seen the eldest sister, Raffi, rupturing her knee ACL and missing out on the Games.

The sister’s first adventure into World Football was the Pan American Maccabiah Games in 2011 in Brazil, alongside former West Australian and Matilda Tal Karp. WA Coach Mark Abro has been appointed again as the Australian Women’s Coach.

Maccabiah 2013 – The 4th largest sporting event in the world, takes place every 4 years. It will include up to 72 countries with over 7,500 athletes. Women’s Open Football has 10 countries registered: Australia, Israel, USA, Great Britain, Germany, Canada, Brazil, Argentina, Venezuela and South Africa.

Good luck young Laura and quick recovery Raffi with your operation.
