Melville City FC Academy Trials for boys and girls

October 15, 2012 By: Penny Category: Club Noticeboard

2013 will be another ground breaking year for Melville City FC with the establishment of an elite junior academy. After the success of the inaugural State League season where Melville had both womens (Division One Champions and promoted into the Premier league 2013) and mens represented in the new State league divisions, the club has recognised the need to create a pathway for talented players.

In the first season, the Academy teams will run from under 11s to under 16s and the programme will be overseen by State league Head Coaches Dan Evans and assistant Gavin Brown. In a massive coup for the club, John Curtin Football Director Peter Rickers will also come on board as the club’s Director of Coaching.

The ethos of the academy will be to develop players on a tactical, technical, physical and psychological level. Although winning is important, the focus will be on developing players that are capable of playing for Melville State league teams and hopefully beyond. Of equal importance will be the development of Melville’s coaches. Enhanced coach education is paramount to the ongoing success of the junior programme and the club.

The academy will be originally focused on the more talented junior players but the need to develop the underpinning community programmes is also a priority for the club. Peter Rickers will be implementing systems to ensure that no talented player gets lost within the massive ranks of one of Perth’s biggest Football clubs. Furthermore, the club recognises that to become a force in both the mens and womens WA State League’s, junior development is of the highest importance. State League players involvement with the junior squads to facilitate integration between juniors and seniors is integral to the success of both programmess.
