Angels fly past NTC

May 19, 2013 By: Penny Category: Competitions

Sunday, May 19, 2013

It was highlights galore for Beckenham Angels with Antonia Jukic producing a contender for goal of the year in their 8-0 romp of the NTC at Mills Park.

Report by James Mooney

Lindsey Jobling also bagged a hat-trick in the massive win which boosts the Angels’ chances of chasing down league leaders Northern Redbacks.

Jukic’s 20-yard strike from out flew into the top right corner with nothing that NTC keeper Gabby Dal Busco could do.

Beckenham coach Jason Washington-King believes the strike will be hard to beat and came as a surprise.

“Someone was saying was that her first goal (for the club), but she scored one goal last year, so she doesn’t score a lot, but it was good,” he said.

Washington-King was quick to give credit to the NTC despite the size of the win.

“I understand what they are doing…forget about the score line, the way they moved the ball and they way they controlled the ball was really good,” he said.

“They’ve got good players all over the pitch…wait until the second and third rounds, things will be really different.”

From the kick-off it was Beckenham with all the play, peppering Dal Busco’s goal, who kept her side in it with several key saves.

Lindsey Jobling was the first to strike as her header skidded low into the net.

Stephanie Cain soon made it two as she found herself on the end of a wonderful through ball and keeping her cool, guided the ball into the bottom-left corner.

Jukic’s screamer of a goal soon followed as Beckenham had their foot on the throat of the NTC.

The NTC didn’t drop their heads though and continued to put up a solid effort in defence, however struggled to get the ball out of their half.

Jobling then found her second for the day in the second half from another close-range header creeping between Dal Busco and her near post.

Danielle Calautti then made it five, slipping through NTC’s defence and knocking it into the net.

Beckenham stormed away late on as Jobling found her hat-trick, Cain got her second and Opal Wright another as the floodgates opened towards the backend of the second half.

Looking next week, Beckenham face the in-form Queens Park and the Angels will be out for revenge.

“They beat us on penalties in the Night Series semi-finals, so we will have plenty of motivation,” Washington-King said.

The NTC will look to bounce back against the Northern Redbacks.
