Women’s Soccer Continues To Grow At North Beach

January 17, 2013 By: Penny Category: Club Noticeboard

Over the last few years at North Beach Soccer Club the number of female players participating in the sport has steadily increased. North Beach is very proud of its girls and women’s teams and is keen to attract more players in the coming seasons.

Girl’s teams are becoming more and more popular with girls able to compete in girls only teams from the age of 11 and continuing up to the age of 17. There are increasing numbers of girls playing in the mixed teams starting as young as 5 years old.

This season, North Beach is hoping to register at least two, possibly three, Bankwest Metropolitan Women’s League teams.

We have a great bunch of players with a great commitment to the game and the team. Experienced players and first time players are encouraged to come and join us for a kick around and if you like what you experience then sign up.

The Clubrooms are situated on the southern side of Charles Riley Reserve on Williamson Way in North Beach. The club is run by volunteers and has a friendly, fun atmosphere.

Midweek training nights are bustling with juniors, senior teams and girls and women’s teams all working together in preparation for weekend competitions.

Sundays are always busy with junior teams competing in the mornings and the senior and women’s teams taking to the field in the afternoons.

The club has a thriving canteen offering quality refreshments to players and supporters. The outdoor café al fresco area is perfectly placed for supporters to watch the games while enjoying a drink, a coffee or some yummy food. Players and visiting teams gather after their games to socialize and enjoy the friendly atmosphere.

Players interested in joining the North Beach Soccer club are encouraged to contact the womens_vicepresident@nbsc.org.au or phone Belinda 9447 5136.

Abby Wambach wins the FIFA Women’s World Player of the Year 2012!

Abby Wambach was presented her award by team mate Hope Solo and President Sepp Blatter.

Abby Wambach is a striker for the USWNT, and is currently just six goals behind the US record of 158 international goals, currently held by Mia Hamm. Wambach has reached the final of the FIFA Women’s World Player of the Year three times.

In 2012, Abby enjoyed a successful Olympic campaign winning Gold with USA, her second gold medal of her career.

The other nominees…

It’s been a huge year for the young USA international striker Alex Morgan. In 2012 Alex became the youngest player to score 20 international goals in a calender year. In total Morgan scored 28 goals and had 21 assists in 2012. Morgan celebrated winning the gold medal at the London 2012 Olympics with USA. Alex Morgan was recognized as USA’s 2012 Player of the Year.

The Brazilian striker Marta is no stranger to the FIFA Ballon d’Or awards, having won the FIFA World Player of the Year title for a record five consecutive years between 2006 and 2010. Marta was part of the Brazilian Women’s national team that reached the London 2012 quarter-finals. At club level Marta helped her team Tyresö FF win the Swedish Damallsvenskan league.
