There are two trials organised for Saturday 14th & 28th May, 10am – noon @ Gibbney Reserve, Mephan St, Maylands. There will be Football West representation to help with the selection process. These dates may not suit everyone, so if you are unable to make those dates please let the WMG organising group know and we can see what alternatives can be arranged for the selection process. WA’s Western Spirit Women’s Masters team have claimed second place at the Pan Pacific Masters Games on the Gold Coast recently.
Spirit on high after silver placing
Western Spirit finished top of the table undefeated in the over 40 age group before going down 2-1 to PAVS in the grand final at Nerang Soccer Club.
The competition hosted over 1000 players including former Australian internationals, National Soccer League and W-League players.
Former Australian Universities captain and PAVS skipper Kaye Yardin faced up against former Uni vice-captain Penny Tanner, who led Western Spirit.
With Western Spirit defeating PAVS 2-0 in the group stage, PAVS reorganised and crowded out the fast attacking Spirit team.
Spirit continued the relentless attacking pursuit evident in their earlier displays but PAVS were disciplined in defence.
PAVS scored twice with just two opportunities and Spirit were only able to beat PAVS’ top-form keeper once through a well-struck penalty by Kelly Jarden.
Western Spirit Women’s team: Michelle Colebrook (East Fremantle), Kerry Henry (Subiaco), Claire Lyons (Cockburn), Tina Glasson (Mandurah), Sylvia Jenkins (Mandurah), Kelly Jarden (Bassendean), Dorte MacGillivray (Hammersley), Danelle Nicolle (Kalgoorlie), Karen Denny (Cockburn), Suzy Blake (East Fremantle), Vari Wheater (Leeming), Rachel Pepper (Subiaco), Deb Clinton (Mandurah), Penny TannerHoath (Melville).
