SANDRA BRENTNALL MEDAL ANNOUNCED FOR WOMEN’S CUP FINAL

September 29, 2012 By: Penny Category: Competitions, Trophy winners

footballwest.com.au
WA football legend Sandra Brentnall will be recognised by Football West at the upcoming Bankwest Women’s Cup Final, with a medal to be named in her honour.

The Sandra Brentnall Medal will be awarded to the player adjudged best afield in the Cup Final between Northern Redbacks and Beckenham Angels.

2012 has already seen Brentnall inducted into the Football Hall of Fame WA’s Hall of Legends for her playing exploits which included scoring Australia’s first ever goal in ‘A’ international competition and first ever hat-trick.

Brentnall will select the best afield and present the medal after the match.
“It is such an honour, I’m just shocked about it all,” said Brentnall.
“I’m absolutely wrapped, getting in the Hall of Champions all those years ago and then the Legends this year and now this – it’s just unreal.”

Brentnall is still an active player in the Bankwest Women’s State League Division One with Leeming Strikers and this year saw her bag 11 goals.

The Cup Final will see Northern Redbacks looking to make it a staggering five-straight Cup wins in coach Tim Hodgson’s final match in charge. In their way stands fierce rivals Beckenham Angels, who were crowned 2012 league winners last weekend.

Both teams will also be locking horns this Sunday 30 September in the final round of the regular Bankwest Women’s State Premier League season at Celebration Park, with kick-off at 1pm. Make sure to head down for a preview of what the Cup Final will have in store!

Brentnall is tipping Beckenham to complete the treble after already winning the league and pre-season Night Series.

“I’ve seen them a few times this year and they have a fairly strong squad, with good players coming off the bench,” said Brentnall.

“But anything can happen in the Cup!”
